February 24, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm

Title

The Concept of Vernacular Architecture Between the Past and Present

Abstract

Vernacular architecture is a type of local or regional structure that is directly related to and strongly influenced by its surroundings. It is aware of the distinctive geographical factors and cultural aspectsof its surroundings. As a result, it is so distinctive in many regions of the world that it has even become a means for asserting the local identity. The aim of the study is to learn more about vernacular architecture and the elements that influence its development. By reviewing Amos Rapoport’s book “House Form and Culture”, the study attempts to distinguish between local and primitive architecture, as well as understand modern vernacular architecture in the context of mass housing projects, and provide some recommendations for the revival of vernacular architecture in developing countries.
