Cihan University–Erbil Participates in Scientific Symposium Organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research

Erbil, February 29, 2024 — Representatives from Cihan University–Erbil participated in a scientific symposium organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, focusing on combating narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and their impact on human health.

The university was represented by Assistant Professor Abdul-Sattar Karim Saeed, Vice President of Cihan University–Erbil for Administrative and Student Affairs, and Dr. Omar Zubair Sheikhani, Head of the Department of Law. The symposium was attended by H.E. Dr. Aram Muhammad Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, along with several university presidents, members of the Supreme Committee for Combating the Use of Psychotropic Substances, consultants, general directors, university professors, and specialists in the field.

During the symposium, H.E. Dr. Aram Muhammad Qadir delivered a keynote speech highlighting the seriousness of the issue and emphasizing the vital role of higher education institutions in raising awareness and reducing the spread of psychotropic substances, particularly within educational environments.

Following the minister’s address, the symposium program was divided into two main sessions, providing participants with the opportunity to present observations, recommendations, and practical proposals aimed at limiting the prevalence of psychotropic stimulants and strengthening preventive measures within society.

The symposium underscored the importance of inter-institutional cooperation and the role of academic and legal expertise in addressing societal challenges related to public health and drug prevention.
