Computer Science Department Organizes Workshop on the Role of AI in Education in Celebration of International Education Day

Erbil, January 28, 2026 — In celebration of International Education Day, and under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Alia Asaad Mahdi, the Department of Computer Science at Cihan University–Erbil organized a scientific workshop for students entitled “AI in Academic Environments: From Prompt Engineering to Ethical Integration.”

The workshop was held at the university’s conference hall and aimed to enhance students’ awareness of the growing role of artificial intelligence in modern academic environments. The event featured a series of insightful sessions presented by Computer Science students, combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

The workshop began with an in-depth presentation by Abdulwahab Abdullah Ibrahim, who discussed the fundamental principles of artificial intelligence, highlighting its historical development and key milestones. This session provided students with a solid foundation for understanding contemporary AI technologies.

Following this, Najia Nawzad Qadir delivered a focused session on Prompt Engineering, explaining effective strategies for formulating precise and structured queries to obtain accurate, reliable, and research-oriented outputs from AI tools.

The practical dimension of AI in academia was then demonstrated by Ibrahim Rahwan Salih, who showcased how AI can streamline academic tasks, including the creation of professional PowerPoint presentations and visual media to support learning and research activities.

The workshop concluded with an open and engaging discussion on Ethics of Use and Academic Integrity, led by Yasser Amer Abduljabbar and Zakaria Sirwan. The speakers emphasized that artificial intelligence should serve as a supportive tool that enhances productivity and learning, rather than replacing human critical thinking, creativity, and academic responsibility.

Overall, the workshop highlighted the importance of developing the necessary skills and ethical awareness to integrate AI effectively in education. It reinforced the idea that artificial intelligence is a strategic partner in academic learning when used responsibly and thoughtfully.
