On 23 November 2025, the Department of English at Cihan University–Erbil hosted an academic presentation by Assistant Professor Zuhair Abdulameer Abdulrahman titled “Challenges Facing Cihan University Students at the Department of English in Pronunciation.” The study, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), examined key barriers affecting English pronunciation among EFL students.
The research focused on pronunciation difficulties caused by interlingual and intralingual factors and assessed students’ performance through oral tests conducted with Level One and Level Four students. The findings revealed that pronunciation remains a major challenge despite years of study, significantly impacting students’ oral communication and academic performance. The presenter concluded with practical recommendations aimed at enhancing students’ pronunciation accuracy, oral proficiency, and overall communicative competence.
