On Thursday, 16 October 2025, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University–Erbil organized a Healthy Food Festival in celebration of World Food Day. The event showcased students’ academic and practical achievements in nutrition education and healthy food preparation.
Students from various academic stages, under the supervision of Lecturer Tania Salam (Head of the Department), designed, prepared, and presented a wide range of healthy dishes reflecting nutrient-balanced recipes and evidence-based dietary practices.
The festival was officially inaugurated by the University President, Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawe, and attended by Prof. Dr. Ayad Hazim Hassan (Vice President for Scientific Affairs) and Dr. Abdul Sattar Kareem Sahed (Vice President for Student Affairs and Management).
Exhibits were organized into thematic stations, including balanced meals, traditional dishes modified using healthier cooking methods, and quick nutritious snacks. Each display featured educational cards outlining ingredients, preparation methods, portion sizes, and nutritional value, complemented by brief oral explanations from the students.
Live demonstrations highlighted healthy cooking techniques—such as baking and steaming instead of deep-frying—as well as essential food-safety practices. Visitors were invited to sample small portions and participate in discussions on food substitutions, allergen awareness, and interpreting nutrition information.
University leadership toured the exhibition, engaging with students through targeted questions on portion control, preparation temperatures, and real-life dietary applications. The activity emphasized applied learning outcomes, including menu planning aligned with dietary guidelines, standardized recipe execution, nutrient labeling, and effective health communication.
The event concluded with appreciation remarks by Lecturer Tania Salam, who commended the students’ professionalism and thanked university leadership for their support and attendance. The department will archive the presented recipes and photographs for future teaching and community outreach initiatives.
