Cihan University-Erbil Organizes an Awareness Workshop on Modern Techniques for Early Detection of Breast Cancer

In recognition of International Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of Radiological Imaging Technologies, in collaboration with the Departments of Computer Science and Medical Microbiology, organized an awareness workshop entitled “Think Pink, Think Smart: Myths, Facts, and AI-Powered Diagnosis.” The workshop was held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the VIP Hall of Cihan University–Erbil. The event was honored by the presence of faculty members, heads of departments, lecturers, and students, whose participation contributed to the success of the workshop.

The workshop commenced with an opening address by Assistant Lecturer Rozhin Hosein Rahman, who welcomed the attendees and expressed her appreciation to the University’s presidency for its continuous support, presence, and oversight of academic activities and events that align with global advancements. She emphasized that such support is particularly vital when addressing topics such as breast cancer, which has become a significant global health concern.

Following the opening session, the workshop featured three speakers. Assistant Professor Dr. Ameena Sabah Mahmood delivered an overview of breast cancer, providing valuable insights into the topic. This was followed by Assistant Lecturer Noor Sami Omar from the Department of Radiological Imaging Technologies, entitled “Using Radiation in Breast Cancer Detection.” The workshop concluded with a presentation delivered by Assistant Lecturer Alyaa Asaad from the Department of Computer Science, entitled Utilizing Artificial Intelligence for Breast Cancer Detection.”

After the lectures, a Q&A session was held to address questions and input, which received significant engagement and enthusiasm from the attendees.
